Abstract

The posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder observed in people who have been directly involved in a traumatic situation. PTSD manifestations depend on many factors particularly on those that preceded a trauma, type of the psycho-traumatic situation, duration of the traumatic factor impact as well as on the quality and timeliness of medical aid. The notion PTSD w as introduced to the classification of mental disorders in the eighties though this disease accompanied the mankind from the beginning of its existence. This fact was proved both in the medical chronicles and literary works of writers of different epochs. In the course of time the PTSD manifestations have not changed essentially, it is the researchers' attitude to this issue that has changed. It has had an effect on the diagnostic criteria and diagnostic methods revealed both in ICD and DSM. The variety of diagnostic methods existing at present allows to determine the disease rather accurately and objectively and to perform medical investigations.
