Abstract

In order to proof urgency of the problem of obesity in society we investigated lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. To achieve the objective w e evaluated the patients' diet, their body mass index (BMI), calculated the appropriate mass using Brock index, measured their hips and waist (to identify the obesity type), tested plasma level of cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoproteids, insulin resistance index, glycosylated hemoglobin and leptin by ELISA. Patients with primary obesity of all levels had the increased level of BMI, cholesterol, triglycerides and insulin resistance index. The progressive increase in body mass index leads to leptin- and insulin resistance. After testing level of luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone their increase was recorded, that proves the correlation between leptin and luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. Obesity is a medical and social problem caused by such factors as feeding behavior, healthy way of life and nutrition habits, that requires not only promotion of healthy eating habits.
