Using of short-wave ultraviolet irradiation as a method for recovering of uterine cervix epithelium and prevention of complications after low-invasive gynaecological intervetions

Abstract

Low-invasive destructive uterine cervix surgery is used as a method of treatment of uterine cervix pathology that constitutes a considerable share of reproductive system organs diseases. After destruction of pathological foci of the epithelium of the cervix, its recovery takes place. It is advisable to use ultraviolet irradiation of affected area at the completion stage of granulation tissue formation in order to avert postoperative complications such as fibrous strictures, cervical canal atresia, nidi of subepithelial endometriosis, incomplete zone of benignant transformation with transitional zone bias from pavement epithelium to cylindrical epithelium and origination of uterine neck cysts. The objective of this study was to identify effects of ultraviolet irradiation on reparative processes in mucous layer of uterine neck. 187 women that underwent radiosurgical ablation or excision respectively in order to destruct pathological areas have been examined and given a course of treatment. Irradiation of ectocervix using «BOP» short-wave irradiator (produced by «Zapovit» enterprise located in Kyiv) was used to treat patients of main group consisted of 137 women. Vaginal suppositories contained Methyluracil and syringing with chamomile or calendula herbal decoctions were being used from the 20-th to the 35-th day of postoperative period to treat patients of control group consisted of 50 women. Colposcopic examination performed following the treatment administered revealed complete reepithelization of uterine neck in 116 patients (85%), no cicatricial changes in 124 women (90%) and transitional zone from pavement to cylindrical epithelium at external orifice of cervical canal in 130 (95%) patients. Thus using of short-wave ultraviolet accelerates reparation of uterine cervix mucous layer during postoperative period, the treatment is safe and allows to avert complications such as fibrous strictures, cervical canal atresia, nidi of subepithelial endometriosis, incomplete zone of benignant transformation with transitional zone bias from pavement epithelium to cylindrical epithelium and origination of uterine cervix cysts.
